Journey to Jubilee explores the stories of the African-Americans who were brought to, and born at, Belle Meade from 1807 through the years following Emancipation. Discover more about their vital presence on this property and their relationship with the family until the close of Belle Meade in 1906. Many men, women, and children were present here from enslavement to freedom. They endured, and we want to honor them by telling their story. Using research from primary sources, nearly one hundred years of this crucial history is explored.
This walking tour (not ADA accessible) takes place inside the kitchen house and outside. The tour is followed by a complimentary wine tasting (age 21+) in the Winery.

Please Note: Our goal for this tour is that adults speak freely and honestly about the violent reality of slavery. Our hope is that such honest conversation will lead to lasting improvements for race relations in our country. In order to foster an environment where all adults feel comfortable, we have restricted this tour to teenagers and adults. However, we believe that the story of slavery is an important one for children to learn. Therefore, we offer our “Stories of Slavery and Freedom” program for families with children ages 4-12.
